Holy Week Horror, The Notre Dame Cathedral Up In Flames

A symbol of the western world, Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral, went up in flames during some renovations to the 12th-century treasure. The building was saved from total destruction by the efforts of Paris firefighters, but it was not before the collapse of its iconic spire. The Cathedral is a world famous tourist attraction, and the setting of famous novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". The Cathedral is known for its numerous stone gargoyles and flying buttresses.
Not everything was lost in the blaze however. Miraculously, the two iconic rectangular towers were saved, as well as a majority of the central part of the cathedral, including the cross behind the altar.
The french president, Emmanuel Macron, declared a national emergency, and he has vowed to rebuild. He said he would seek international assistance with the project but says eventually it will be restored to its former glory.
