FDA And CDC Rise Awareness As Rising New Hormone Amounts On Foods Raise Health Concerns.

FLORIDA, United States - Recently there has been a decision on the table to pass a regulation for use of two drugs in grapefruit and orange trees. The EPA has ignored the fact that this may affect the consumers of the fruits. The trees are declining in production currently because they are being affected by bacteria. This is putting the production behind the demand of consumers wants. This is why they want to go through with this decision.
This raises concerns for the FDA and CDC because these hormones that are transmitted onto the fruit create drug resistance in humans. Drug resistance is one of the largest heath concerns that we are facing right now in the Untied States. Drug-resistant infections kill 23,000 Americans each year and sicken two million, according to the C.D.C.
Because of these drug resistant diseases Florida is battling a life threatening situation: a bacteria disease with no cure. This bacteria is effecting a lot of citrus fruits with oranges being the largest. The long and short of it is that the industry that made Florida, that is synonymous with Florida, that is a staple on every American breakfast table, is totally threatened,” said Senator Bill Nelson, a Florida Democrat, according to a New York Times article.
These are two large issues that tie in together. They are a big threat to not only the citrus fruit industry and the state of Florida but also to the health of consumers. These infections and diseases can make one Ill and are even deadly.
I think this article really tells a story- good job! The headline catches the reader's eye and looking at the story, it seems to follow the inverted pyramid style of writing. I think all of the 5 W's and the H have been addressed (however, the "when" could maybe be clarified). The quotations actually add value to the story unlike other's I've seen in other classes. Some things to improve on is proofreading the article before publishing and thinking about how articles can be presented. In COMM 200, I learned that articles should attempt to have little emotion or seem like a robot is writing it rather than a human. Although varied language can help, it can sometimes come off differently than intended.
